Raptors aren’t the only migrants that pass along the coast of Veracruz. Between the resident Mexican warblers and migrants like this Yellow-throated Warbler, we usually see about 40 species of warblers on the tour.
This Zebra Long-wing Butterfly is one of dozens of beautiful species of butterflies we see on the tour.
The spectacular falls at Xico, near Xalapa, is a good place to look for swifts such as both Great and Lesser Swallow-tailed Swifts. Many other good birds can be found in the shade coffee plantations nearby
This Amazon Kingfisher is one of five species of kingfishers possible on the tour.
The tropical environments of Veracruz are home to a variety of interesting creatures besides birds. This orb-weaver spider is common in the rain forest near Catemaco.
The migrant raptors share the coastal plain with a variety of resident raptors, such as this Great Black-Hawk.
Several species of euphonias are possible in Veracruz, including this Scrub Euphonia.
Birding the rain forests of the Americas isn’t complete without toucans. The Keel-billed Toucan is the largest of three species possible on the tour.
Social Flycatchers are common in lowland habitats throughout tropical Mexico.
This common butterfly is named “88,” for obvious reasons.
